The challenge

The automotive industry has been somewhat slow to adapt to a world now dominated by technology in general and mobile apps in particular. But early movers like Directed stand to gain tremendous benefits (and market share) by going digital.

As a global leader in security and control telematics, Directed’s suite of products enable drivers to do everything from remote start a vehicle to get its position in real time. The company’s flagship mobile app, SmartStart, allows users to connect to their car from virtually anywhere.

But in order to differentiate themselves from the competition and to keep their users happier, Directed saw the imperative to keep innovating. They needed a cutting-edge mobile application that could interface seamlessly with their hardware modules installed in cars.

Directed’s main goal was to offer an intuitive and meaningful experience inside the app while continuing to update both the app and their hardware.

All the various pieces had to play well together!

The solution

Everything started with in-depth Discovery discussions that gave our team a deep understanding of Directed’s mission, vision, and target audience.

This process also enabled us to visualize the user experience and identify their biggest pain: the mobile app’s quality and performance. Together we developed a stabilized application and dramatically improved the quality of both the code and the UI/UX.

At the same time, we mapped out a creative mobile strategy and implemented intelligent prompts at strategic points in the user flow. These prompts increased the volume of positive reviews and improved the app’s overall rating.

The results

The new solution that Samsao delivered was bigger than the app or code.

We took a proprietary role in the engineering and product development, and we challenged Directed’s leadership to grow their vision for the product and to keep pushing the envelope.

The results

The new solution that Samsao delivered was bigger than the app or code.

We took a proprietary role in the engineering and product development, and we challenged Directed’s leadership to grow their vision for the product and to keep pushing the envelope.

In the meantime, we deployed simple solutions to address their complex user experience problems. Tight collaboration with Directed’s product team and emphasis on positive user experience have enabled us to iterate the app quickly and improve it with each update.

The solution minimized the risk and generated a quick return for Directed. Now we will continue to widen the gap between Directed and their competition as we focus on developing new features.
